Every so often a project comes along that reminds us why we do what we do. Decorex Joburg 2026 was exactly that. From 30 July to 2 August, the Sandton Convention Centre filled with the best of South African design, and we were thrilled to see our Sugar Cube furniture take pride of place on one of the show's most talked-about stands: an award-winning collaboration with PEP Home.
We could not be prouder of how it turned out.

A stand built around the idea of home
The concept came from something wonderfully ordinary: South Africa's iconic stormy blanket. You know the one. It has kept families warm across generations, and it carries a particular kind of comfort that instantly says home.
The creative team at Haas took that feeling and ran with it, under a simple line that anchored the whole space: "It's more than just a blanket. It's home." The stand translated that warmth into furniture, lighting and artwork, celebrating comfort, belonging and the quiet joy of a space that feels like yours. It also made a point close to our own hearts, that affordable design can look genuinely good.
The result spoke for itself. The stand won the 2026 Decorex Joburg Executive Creative Director Award, and being part of that team was a real honour.

Why the Sugar Cube Family fits right in
When the brief is warmth, comfort and belonging, our Sugar Cube family was a natural fit. A modern take on the traditional locker, Sugar Cube is built for bold, everyday living: powder-coated steel, a lockable design, adjustable shelves and a flatpack build that ships flat and settles in fast.
It is furniture that earns its keep. A side table by the sofa, a cabinet in the home office, a media unit in the lounge, storage that tidies away the clutter without disappearing into the background. That mix of function and personality is exactly what made it sit so comfortably inside a space all about home.

The Honey colourway steals the show
If there was one colour made for a stand inspired by that golden, glowing sense of comfort, it was Honey.
Our warm, golden Honey finish caught the light beautifully against the stormy-blanket palette, echoing the gold tones that make the original so recognisable. It is the kind of colour that feels cosy and confident at the same time, adding a cheeky pop of warmth to a room without shouting for attention. On the stand, it did exactly what good design should do: it made the space feel lived-in and loved.
If you have been eyeing something with a bit of character, Honey is the one to watch.

A collaboration with heart
What made this project special went beyond the furniture. The stand brought together a talented group of makers, and it carried a genuine sense of community from start to finish.
Alongside the design pieces, a series of embroidered artworks was created by skilled seamstresses from the Die Lighuis community project in McGregor, turning everyday PEP Home blankets into storytelling artworks. Those pieces went up for auction in support of PEP's Lay-By Buddy initiative, which helps families pay off their lay-bys so they can take home the essentials they have been saving towards. Design doing a little good in the world: we are all for that.
Our thanks go to PEP Home and the Haas team for having us along, and to every partner and maker who helped bring the vision to life.
