Earth Day is held every year on 22 April and has been for 48 years. We really care about the planet at Popstrukt and are always on the lookout for ways to make our business more sustainable, whether that's the use of sustainable materials such as birch ply or focusing on the creation of durable products that will stand up to the rigors of time.
In the lead up to Earth Day we thought we'd share some really cool South African designers and entrepreneurs, who are (literally) making the world a better place.
For 2018 Earth Day is dedicated to raising awareness about the effect plastic is having on our world that's why we thought we'd open by featuring a South African company that's using design ingenuity to upcycle plastic bottles into stylish fashion accessories.
The Joinery are a sustainable lifestyle brand who create ethical yet highly fashionable products and fashion accessories. he items in their store stand testament to the fact that design with a conscious doesn't have to compromise on aesthetics.
All their products are produced by sewing cooperatives and artisans around the townships of Cape Town providing employment in these communities.
Check out their beautiful selection of products on their online store.

The name, Oh Lief, is a clever play on the word olive oil, which is also the core ingredient in their range of 100% organic skincare products. Developed by sisters Christine Buchanan and Louiza Rademan, Oh-lief was born out of their love for nature and the desire to create something that was good for your skin and the environment. Originally focused on baby skincare, they have continued to innovate, growing an extensive range of olive oil based products suitable for adults and babies, as well as a sun care range.
Their products contain no harsh chemicals, artificial fragrances, petroleum, parabens, artificial colours or nut oils making them suitable for all skin types.
Their range is available online and in selected stores.

We love the thinking behind Growbag, an out-of-the-box business that uses up-cycled billboard advertising to create gardening containers. These vinyl containers are tough and perfect for flats, small homes and balconies and can even be used to create vertical gardens. Not only is their idea completely unique, but so are the containers themselves, with each one featuring a different slice of the billboard its made from. Growbag is also the perfect way to start a small vegetable or herb garden if you don't have the luxury of a large open space.
Growbag are based in Cape Town and can be seen at stores and markets across the country.
